Young striker Chris McCaughtrie joined Leigh Genesis in the summer of 2008 after being released by Premier League neighbours Wigan Athletic following a four spell as a youth and reserve at the JJB Stadium, where he scored once in nine reserve team appearances.
After a series of impressive performances in the Genesis reserve side, McCaughtrie made his first team debut as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Harrogate Railway Athletic in the FA Trophy First Qualifying Round on 18th October 2008.
McCaughtrie made his full league debit just a week later as Genesis lost 3-0 to North Ferriby United in a UniBond Premier League game played on November 8th at Hurst Cross, home of Ashton United.
The livewire striker scored his first goal for the club against Whitby Town on Saturday 15th November 2008, racing through to slot home a vital second Genesis goal in a thrilling 2-2 draw.
