Grounds for concern for Genesis

By Matt Lawton August 15 2008
Leigh Genesis FC have been dealt a huge blow on the eve of the new UniBond Premier League season with the news that Hilton Park has been deemed by league representatives to be unfit to host the club's two opening home league matches of the new season.

Regular use over the summer and a lack of suitable maintenance has meant that the Hilton Park pitch has been left in a state that is unacceptable to the UniBond Premier League and as such the games against Ashton United on Tuesday and against Ilkeston Town the following Saturday will now be played at Victory Park, home of UniBond League Division One side Chorley.

It is hoped that during this time Hilton Park will be brought up to the appropriate standards and be fit to host matches thereafter until the club finally moves in to it's new home at the Leigh Sports Village, something that the club hope will happen sooner rather than later if they gain permission to open only the East Stand whilst building work continues on the other three stands.

With no direct bus route to Chorley, supporters wishing to travel by public transport will have to do so by rail from Bolton station, while anybody wishing to travel by car but stuck for a lift is more than welcome to put a request on the GenesisLeythers.co.uk forum, where a number of lift shares can be organised.
