A goal in each half was enough for hosts Tamworth to secure a routine Blue Square North victory over Steve Bleasdale's lacklustre RMI side at the Lamb Ground that leaves the Railwaymen rooted to the foot of the league table ahead of next week's visit of AFC Telford United.

After winning a thrilling FA Trophy tie at Burscough by the odd goal in five last weekend, RMI confidently made the trip to fellow strugglers Tamworth but were unable to gain any attacking foothold in a poor encounter in blustery Staffordshire.

Striker Leon Osborne, on loan from Bradford City and influential in the win at Burscough, had RMI's only meaningful chance for more than an hour when he shot narrowly over the crossbar after some neat build up play.

The hosts took the lead when a Lambs counter attack from an RMI corner ended with Nick Wright sending a low shot in to the net shortly after the half hour mark, although Leigh goalkeeper Tim Dittmer will be disappointed to have been deceived by a bobble that took it over his desperate dive.

In a similar vein to the first half, neither side created much in the way of goalscoring chances in the second half, with Tamworth sealing the victory with less than twenty minutes remaning when Gareth Sheldon swept home a superb back post cross and leave RMI hoping for a better result when AFC Telford United visit Hilton Park next Saturday.
