In our new pre-match feature, John Lee talks to Northampton fan Ollie ahead of Tranmere's away game against the Cobblers on Saturday.....
In a feature new to Total Tranmere, our latest recruit John Lee took time out to speak to Northampton fan Ollie (@ollieconopo16) ahead of the upcoming game between Rovers and Northampton on Saturday afternoon at Sixfields Stadium. This is what Ollie had to say....
JL: What comes to mind when you hear the name Tranmere Rovers? Any stand out memories?
O: I remember them pushing for the championship a couple of seasons ago but it seems to have all gone down hill since. I have only been once which was this season, pretty dismal performance from us so not the best of memories!
JL: Do you have a Tranmere player that stands out above all others?
O: I regard Fon Williams as a great keeper, but I see Max Power as your stand out player. Although Myrie-Williams has caused us problems in the past.
JL: You are currently on a very good run. What happened to start turning your season around?
O: Wilder got rid of around SIX first teamers and made brave decisions in doing so. Brought in Jason Taylor who's a great midfield ball winner. Ricky Holmes who's one of the best wingers in the league who's brought excitement back, along with Brendan Moloney at right back. Also, big players such as Horwood, O'Toole and hackett have all returned to form.
JL: Who has been your star man of recent weeks? Anyone we should be keeping an eye on for Saturday?
O: Ricky Holmes without a doubt. Will take players on for fun and has a great work rate. Also the full backs Moloney and Horwood are great getting forward. Although we're without leading goal scorer Mark Richards who's tore his Achilles.
JL: You mentioned Mark Richards. He is the league’s top scorer. Will you keep hold of him in the summer?
O: I should think so. He looks happy and settled here and is a big part of what we're trying to achieve. Also on a 3 year deal.
JL: Any chance of you lads getting into the play offs in your opinion?
O: We have two must win home games against you and Carlisle which could possibly put us in them. We've got a good chance but losing Richards could play a big part.
JL: I've always liked John-Joe O’Toole, he stands out. But is he more than just a haircut?
O: Definitely. On his day, he's a top player. He hasn't exactly hit the ground running since he joined us but he's getting better week after week.
JL: How is Evan Horwood getting on over there?
Very well. Missed a few months injured but is certainly getting back to his best. Solid defensively and a key part to our attack.
JL: Prediction for the game?
O: It'll be closer than form suggests, especially without Rico. Can see a 1-0 Cobblers win.
JL: Prediction for where both clubs will finish?
O: I reckon we'll finish just outside the play offs, maybe 9th or 10th. Tranmere, it will be close, but I think you'll just survive. Just!
JL: Finally, are there any away friendly pubs near the ground?
O: Hungry Horse and Walter Tull are just over the road. Also you've got TGI, Frankie and Bennies, McDonalds and KFC all around the ground.
