Tranmere Rovers v Coventry City Match Discussion

By Deadly Submarine
September 13 2012

If you can't make Tranmere's game at home to Coventry City on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.

Stadium - Tranmere Rovers (Day)

Tranmere of course, host Coventry City on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

1st goal will be crucial. They've got good players but at the moment no doubt their confidence is fragile. We need to get at them right from the start so that they don't settle. Hopefully at least one of our players has their shooting boots on tomorrow.

I can see Ash getting one. I heard at the beginning of last season (from one of the players!) that he was going to be transferred to Coventry for a tidy sum at Christmas (i.e. last Christmas) and that it was a "done deal". Don't know what happened with that... maybe they were just pulling my leg!

I'll settle for a 1-0. If they get any sort of confidence at the start of the game, they could start rekindling lost form right there and then.

If Tranemre get off to a positive start and hopefully score within the first 30 minutes, it will be a much more secure result.

theyve taken the lead in several games and not gone onto win so the first goal might not be so important.

Top of the league and another clean sheet. Had Jake as first scorer with us winning 1-0. Didn't care about the bet when robbo fired in!!!

Bring on Tuesday night. Thank god,the curse of the manager of the month didn't happen today.

Great win, but throughly undeserved i think! we just didnt seem to want it enough until we scored?!. Second to every ball, hoofing it away, Ash Taylors passing was the worst ive seen him do since ive watched him!. Going fowards we didnt seem to have many ideas? Strange game for us, thought we lost out mojo till we scored. But lady luck seems to be with us at the moment! SWA!

I agree, I didn't think we were good today but its a good sign when you don't play well and win.

I thought we just stood off them to much in the first half and showed them too much respect. Luckily they were so awful, they didn't punish us. However when you have that little bit extra which we seem to have now, it showed and we got the win. Thought our midfield was pretty awful today, I thought we needed harrison in there to add a bit of bite cause neither seemed to want to put in a tackle. Palmer had a shocker but it was all forgiven after that stepover which was pure class.

I thought Coventry were awful though. Some of their players looked overweight and unfit and they qwere devoid of any real tactics. McGodrick was the only decent player but he kept having to come down the flanks to get the ball making him unthreatening.

Thought Mr Durso in the middle was absolutely awful too. You can see why he was demoted because some of those decisions were atrocious. There should have been more yellow cards for them because some of the tackles were awful.

We definitely got lucky today and long may it continue. In previous seasons if we had a poor game we were punished. The Gods must be smiling on us. I thought Robbo was an idiot taking off his shirt showing " Justice for the 96." We all appreciate the sentiment but the time to do it was when the minute's applause happened. He's now got another booking towards a suspension that could cost us dearly.

The Coventry Forum I went on before was hilarious!

Their fans were negative before, during and after the game!

I thought that was probably a better performance than it seemed. Coventry outnumbered and out-muscled us in midfield but Ronnie obviously gambled on having a couple of creative players on the flanks, which paid off in the end.

Agree with TranmereFan on Ash's passing. Purely in terms of making interceptions, tackles and blocks and positioning himself he had a good game but when he tried to distribute the ball... oh... my... god!

MOM has to be Zoom. Probably the only player really firing on all cylinders today.

Beggars belief that Coventry are at the bottom of this division. Defensively and in midfield they looked solid. It's definitely in attack where they look weak - didn't seem to have any ideas whatsoever. McGoldrick looks like he has all the qualities of a good player but I don't think that I've ever seen anyone make so little of so many promising situations!

Most encouraging thing about today is that without playing well we produced a moment of magic to win the game, which is exactly what the teams at the top do!

McGoldrick didn't have much support up front.Baker is and always was a primadonna.

I thought they were a very good team who lacked a bit of confidence. Wenatchee them and had to work very hard to get the win.

Harsh comments about Ash because he made some great interceptions. Not the best passer of the ball but that's not his main job.

Great first goal and a great finish.

Tranmere have as much right as any team ot not fire on all cylinders and win. Man U do it plenty of times, so it's only right Tranmere get some fate on their side when they're in form and turn up with a B game.

They'll pick up their heels for Bury I'm sure and look more assured throughout, but it was a great result and that was the important thing and they are top now ahead of county so that's another bonus and thanks Jose for scoring against them.

Bang on with these comments. We got a result that perhaps we didnt deserve but I felt that the team showed the confidence that comes with not losing this season.
Long way to go but this team do have more style than we have seen for some seasons

Did anyone else notice that Jose Baxter did us a favour, scoring on his Oldham debut in the dying minutes against
Notts County to knock them back to second and put us back in top?!

Depends how you look at it. If we are to be promotion contenders, possibly. If on the other hand it turns to a campaign against relegation then Oldham are likely to at that end of the table and so it will be no help to us.

At this satge of the season it is impossible to say which results are good for us.

I remarked about Baxter doing us a favour Trolley Theif, yes as I was very happy with that.

It appeared that County were perhaps a little hard done by, as I think they got a player sent off who did'nt deserve it, but they got lucky against Shrewsbury as I don't think they deserved more than a point, but Hughes stole the point of Shrewsbury, so it's swings and roundabouts.

I also think their strange, stripey, mango and black away kit, does make them look like a bunch of Homosexual burglars.

Agree with most are saying really. Jake took his goal brilliantly. He may not be the best with his back to goal, or work outside of the box, but he is a predator.

Would like to mention Gibson because I thought he was outstanding, as was Zoom.

The fact Tranmere have Goodison, McChrystal, Black and Kay in the squad as well, for the rest of the season at least, is a good amount of depth because the back lines are a big key to the results this season.

I cannot believe Tranmere signed a player like Mooney as well, because it would be understandable with their budget if they'd signed a reject kid from the top 2 tiers that wittle ot no experience and to be honest Tranmere signed Fon Willams last season and he's been class. In reecent season Mooney would have been realistically what Tranemre could have afforded as a first choice player.

I wouldn't feel too concerned if Fon got injured for a few games and Mooney stepped in.

I also found this rather interesting article about Mooney. I wonder if they would let Mooney cut Fons 18 yard box for him before games, or would that be like being his boot boy (Sm6)
