An independent panel today adjudicated that Ipswich Town Football Club must pay Tranmere Rovers a transfer fee for Aaron Cresswell of £240,000 rising to £520,000 based on appearances and promotion.

Cresswell joined the Tractor Boys this summer following the end of his contract at Tranmere but as he was under the age of 24 Tranmere were entitled to compensation for the player.

Tranmere Chairman Peter Johnson, Chief Executive Mick Horton, Manager Les Parry and Chief Scout Dave Philpotts attended the Professional Football Compensation Committee tribunal in Manchester which based its compensation fee on the costs of training and development, the player’s age and playing record as well as the length of time he was registered with his former club, the status of the two clubs, the terms offered by both clubs, previous committee decisions and interest shown by other clubs in acquiring the registration of the player.

The tribunal decided the following:

* Ipswich Town should pay Tranmere Rovers an initial compensation fee of £240,000.

* An addition £45,000 in respect of the player making 15, 30, 45 and 60 appearances for Ipswich Town.

* An additional £100,000 should Ipswich Town achieve promotion to the Premier League in this season or the next two seasons.

* Tranmere should receive 20% of any profit made by Ipswich Town in selling the player to another club at any point in the future.

Speaking of the tribunal decison, Chairman Peter Johnson said..

“Although it didn’t meet our expectations I am pleased with the result of the tribunal.  Aaron Cresswell is the sort of player who will fulfil their requirements and no doubt appear in the 60 games we need to maximise the additional income.”

I think most would have accepted £300k, to get probably £330k this season and another £90k next season is a good result, especially with the 20% transfer fee.

We've got 3 years for them to get promoted so wouldn't write it off just yet!

Not this year no. But there's a further two seasons ahead after this so don't think it's something thats completely dead in the water.

Not a bad result £240,000 up front were half way there for the next £45,000 payment only hope that some of it could drip feed down to Les for some loan players esp 1,striker(12 month loan if poss). 2,midfield short term loan for cover for Robbo and last but not least central defender for cover for Goody(Ash not the answer) but I think the money will just fade into the background to cover costs ect.

Evening Lads!

Town fan posting in peace!

Just wanted to say that from a personal view point, I think Town have got young Cresswell a tad cheaply, based on how he's performed for us. He appears to have stepped up to the plate and taking the step up in his stride. He looks like a young player with a big future ahead of him if he is willing to learn.

I am glad your club has also got a 20% sell on, as I think its important that smaller clubs get a fair share of the money being paid out in the game. Town have been stitched up in the past when bigger or Premiership clubs have nicked our players on the cheap. So I hope you fans are happy with the result today and I wish you good luck for the season.

Tranmere don't need loan cover for Goodison, you just use Raven and slot Kay at Right back. Kay's performance against Sheff U, as well as some of his performances last season, proved he's up the task of playing RB by and large.

Raven is alledgedly supposed to be adaptable to any defensive position, so why not use him and Kay and pitch Ash for the Wycombe game. Then you've got Ash on the bench.

Considering Ash has some midfield credentials, he would be a reasonably flexible sub.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

You would at least some of that will go towards the wages of a decent attacking player on loan.
