The third of our new weekly feature which seeks to create the Tranmere Rovers Team of the Decade for the noughties looks this week at the poll to determine the best right-back to play for the Club between 2000 and 2009...........

Article Header - Feature Story

For the next seven days, you have the chance to have your say in the second of our 12-part series which look at the best Tranmere Rovers team of the noughties.

Position by position we are giving you the chance to vote on who you think is the best Rovers player (2000-2009) and tonight we begin our second poll to find the best left-back of that era.

Last week the vote took place for the best left-back of the Decade and Gareth Roberts was the outright winner, joining goalkeeper John Achterberg who won our very first poll to find the best goalkeeper.  The question is though who will join Achterberg and Roberts in the team next?....

The candidates for Right-Back are as follows.....

Sean Connolly

Sean Connelly, Tranmere Rovers

A two year spell at Rovers between 2002 and 2004 saw Connolly become popular with Rovers fans.  The little full-back signed from Wolves in 2002 before eventually leaving two years later to sign for Rushden and Diamonds.

Ryan Shotton

Shotton Ryan

Another player who only ever signed on loan but impressed when playing for Rovers is Ryan Shotton.  Loaned from Stoke City by Ronnie Moore during the 2008-09 season, Shotton chipped in with some vital goals as well as some excellent defensive performances as Rovers narrowly missed out on a play-off place on the final day of that season.

Robbie Stockdale

Stockdale

Signed from Hull City in 2006, ex-Middlesbrough defender Stockdale spent two seasons at Prenton Park until 2008 and was a popular player with a number of Rovers fans.  One of Ronnie Moore's first signings after taking over from Brian Little, Stockdale held down a first team place for the majority of his time with the Club.

Ryan Taylor

Taylor, Ryan

Arguably the best player Rovers have produced for a long period of time, Taylor spent three years in the Rovers' first team between 2002 and 2005, including the play-off semi-final defeat in 2005 under then Manager Brian Little.  Although Taylor a penalty in that decisive shoot-out, he was a top performer for Rovers and eventually earned a move to Wigan Athletic and is now with Newcastle United.

Steve Yates

Yates Steve

A Rovers player at the turn of the decade between 1999 and 2002, Yates is forever a hero with Rovers fans thanks his two goals in the recently celebrated St Yates's Day massacre of Everton when Rovers won 3-0 at Goodison Park in the FA Cup in 2001.  Other goals were crucial for the Club in that era too but the two at Goodison Park will forever be remembered.

So who do you think is the best Rovers Keeper of the 2000’s?  Have your say now by voting on our Site Poll which you can find on most pages of the Website (on the bottom of the left hand side menu when viewing the Message Forum and on the right side when viewing this story).

Votes will be counted up until next Sunday when the result will be announced and a feature on the winning player will be published.

I think this is going to be one of the toughest of the votes - Taylor had sheer class and was an awesome player, but Yates and Connolly were solid players too. Think I'll just about go for Ryan

No Reuben Hazell? (Sm163)

I'm torn between Steve Yates and Ryan Taylor.

I'll plump for Yates (but please please please can we play Taylor in front of him!)

Ryan Taylor

I was considering Steve Yates, but i think that was maninly based on St Yates Day. Ryan Taylor is based on the overall perforance whilst he was at the club!

Got to be Ryan Taylor with Steve Yates coming in close especially after those goals against the blue(Sm10)noses in the cup.But for the good of the super team we seem to building here over the next few weeks it has to be Ryan.
