Prenton Park outfit to host Championship club in second round of this season's Carling Cup

Rovers' reward for beating Walsall is a home tie with Championship outfit Seansea City, who only just missed out on a place in the play-offs last season.

When Swansea last visited Prenton Park for a cup tie, a magnificent goal from Iain Hume helped Rovers to a 2-1 win in the F.A. Cup fourth round, with Tranmere, then managed by Brian Little, going on to make the quarter finals of the trophy that season.

Since then, the two clubs have met several times in League One, with Swansea invariably coming out on top.

Les Parry's side booked their place in the second round of the tournament for the second successive year with a 1-0 win over Walsall last night, Ian Goodison scoring the Tranmere goal.

This is the fourth successive time that Tranmere have been drawn at home having made the second round of the League Cup, with Rovers losing on each occasion.

Rovers manager Les Parry however will no doubt see this as a winnable tie for his Tranmere side, perhaps hoping that Swansea will have their eye on the league rather than the cup.

A win for Tranmere in the second round could lead to a big money-spinning third round stage against Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool, who all enter the competition at the third round stage due to European commitments.

Elsewhere in the draw,  the pick of the ties is a home match for Accrington Stanley against Newcastle United, whilst other notable ties include Wolves vs. Southend, Brentford vs. Hull, West Ham vs. Oxford, Fulham vs. Port Vale and Hartlepool vs. Wigan

Have to say, very pleased with this draw. At first I though "hell, run of the mill, dull game" but it's a really winnable tie. We will be going all out to win this whilst Swansea may well be resting players for the league. It's a great chance for us to progress to the third round and get £50,000 (at least) extra in the coffers. That's enough to pay for a player for the season.

Considering the only team I would have liked us to play was Everton, I must admit I am pretty chuffed we are at home, and Swansea isn't too bad of a draw in reality, probably the worst seeded side we could have drawn in the most favourable position, definitely a good chance to make round 3

Good draw. The home tie is useful and I think Tranmere could do better compared to Wolved in the FA cup last season.

Especially as Tranmere could take advantage of the fact they have a new manager who's not established himself at the club yet and they also scored around 40 league goals last season. Only Peterborough scored less.

Most of the potential ties would not have produced a bumper gate at this stage but it is winnable and the subsequent rounds offer a better chance of a money spinner

THey are a good championship team and if they put out a frull strength team should probably beat us but if they are not at full strength then we have a chance but it will still be tough.

LEts hope for a win and a money spinner in the next round.
