Young Tranmere Side Held by Lairds

A Tranmere team made up of first teamers, youth scholars and trialists tonight drew 2 - 2 with local non-league side Cammell Lairds at Kirklands, making it two 2-2 draws on the night in both of Rovers' friendly matches at both Heswall and Lairds.....
The team llined up as follows (with trialists underlined)...

Rovers played in their all Lime Green away strip and, despite the dismal weather, came out to a good following of supporters.
Like their away kit, they started the brighter of the two sides, with trialist Connor looking lively down the left, playing and looking quite like a certain Mr Shuker.
He provided the first major chance with a good ball in to the box, however first year scholar Cole Stockton could only head wide when he should have done better with the goal gaping.
Then a quick fire double from Cammell Lairds stunned Rovers as two headers from left wing deliveries gave them a 2-0 lead and Tranmere looked in trouble.
Just before half time however Rovers pulled one goal back. Aaron Cresswell stood over a free kick and swung in a cross shot, which found the bottom right hand corner and brought Rovers back into the game.

The second half was a more subdued affair, with Rovers controlling most of the play. Gornell could have done better when sent clean through twice down the left but the Tranmere striker failed to score.
Lairds were always dangerous on the counter and Collister did well to parry a powerful effort wide for a corner, before producing a dramatic tip round the post to keep Rovers in it.
As the clock was ticking away a short corner made its way back to Ryan Fraughan, who whipped in a deep left footed cross to the back post for the impressive Jay Gibbs to volley in and earn a share of the spoils.
It could have been more for Rovers when Cresswell’s cross found Fraughan perfectly just six yards out, but the energetic youngster volleyed wide when he should have scored.
That was the last action of the game, which turned out to be a good workout for the youngsters.

The midfielder was energetic and involved in all of Rovers good work, and produced a stunning cross to earn a draw. Cresswell, Connor, Gibbs and Collister also played well.
