Garnett Appointed Centre of Excellence Head

Tranmere Rovers have today announced that Shaun Garnett has returned to working with the clubs youth team and Centre of Excellence players
Tranmere Rovers have today appointed coach Shaun Garnett as the new head of the clubs Centre of Excellence, replacing Kenny Shiels in the role after he joined Kilmarnock last week.
Garnett spent the majority of last season working with the first team as assistant manager to Les Parry, alongside Wayne Allison as the trio guided Tranmere to safety in League One thanks to a final day victory over Stockport County.
However, the 40-year old, who has been part of Tranmere's victorious Masters team over the last twelve months and spent a large portion of his playing career at Prenton Park, has plenty of experience of working with the youngsters as Prenton Park, having been youth team manager for five years after being appointed to the position by then Rovers manager Brian Little in 2004.
During those five years, Garnett oversaw a number of players successfully make the transition from U-18s to first team, with the likes of Aaron Cresswell, Steve Davies, Danny Holmes, Ryan Fraughan, Joe Collister, Craig Curran, Terry Gornell and Ashton Taylor all making their first team debuts after being managed by Garnett at youth level.
When the position to be the manager of the Centre of Excellence came up last week, Garnett applied for the position and today described it as the job he has been aiming for for some time.
Garnett however also expressed how difficult the decision between working with the first team and managing the Centre of Excellence was.
Following the news, Tranmere manager Les Parry told the clubs official site "Shaun was keen to take the job and although I tried to talk him out of it as I was keen he continued working with me and the first team. However, this role is one he has been aiming for since he came back to the club and it is too good an opportunity for him to miss.
"I know he will be successful in the role and wish him all the best of luck".

Of the 3 man management team from last season, only one remains - the least qualified and least experienced of the 3 - absolute shambles!
It will be interesting to see if Les puts faith in Chief (assuming he wants to come back) or in someone totally new instead.
what has encouraged me was the bringing in of a goalkeeping coach.
If The Chief gets into the Masters side I might change my mind.
While Garnet has made the master's side, in terms of quality, he is just making up the numbers compared with the rest.
At the end of the day tho, its all down to who we get playing wise. If the rumours are to be believed about Trundle and Robinson (thats if we can afford them) we could be in for a very good season.
