After recently announcing that they are set to close the Upper Kop and one third of the Johnny King stand for next seasons home games, Tranmere Rovers have today announced that they are to consider where fans will be sat for the 2011/12 season.

FollThe announcement for partial ground closure next season was met with mixed reactions, and the club have today revealed that several fans contacted them suggesting that Tranmere fans should be placed back in the Cowshed stand.

As such, the club have today decided that part way through the 2010/11 season, they will undertake a poll on where home fans should sit at Prenton Park, allowing Tranmere fans to vote for which area they think should be the home end.

However, as season tickets have already been put on sale, it is not possible for home fans to be situated in the Cowsheds stand next season.

Traditionally, Tranmere fans have always sat in the Cowshed stand, until the 2000/01 season, when fans voted in favour of having the Kop entirely as the home end, instead of a segregated stand between both sets of supporters.

Because people have already bought season tickets in areas where away fans would potential sit!

But surely matt, its not rocket science to put out a flyer to say "if you have a kop season ticket, this is now valid for the cowsheds instead". Whats so hard about that?

Safety certificates and the like are given for the stands, surely to god it makes no difference who sits in them......

Would be a good move if we could move back there. A good atmosphere would be created and as the title says we would be back home.

Sorry guys, totally disagree, its was our home, but its not the Cow Sheds that we grew up with, you dont hand over the best stand in the ground to the away fans.

i personal thought a good way of saving money was to just shut the cowshed move away fans to jonny king we have two stands it will look busyer in a way, then when teams like leeds come to town and have alot of fans we could open part of the cowshed

Is it the best stand though?

It may be the biggest, but if we're talking about generating an atmosphere, the Cowsheds is far better.

Mikey, i do understand where your co ing from, but,
More toilet facilitys
More Cafe Bars
Greater access to the main car park
Direct access to Aldos
More space under stand to move around

And lets remember something else, its the fans that generate the atmosphere, not the stand, move back to the cowsheds but if the fans dont join in its all been waste of time and money

Fans may create the atmosphere but the stand helps. The Kop is way too big and the atmosphere currently created in there is non existant. 50 away fans create more noise than 1,000 in the Kop. Moving back to the Cowsheds would be a much better option in my opinion

My idea would be close the top half of the Kop, and use both ends as home ends.

Place the away fans in either the kop end paddock or a section of the main stand. I've never been a fan of having away fans behind the goal. Having home fans behind both goals woul in my opinion encourage home teams to attack more.

Im not sure how many teams do this, but i know Everton do!

Crap view though isn't it?

Behind the goal you need to be high up to get a decent view of the pitch.

Not sure where I'm going to go next season ...

You can't keep everybody happy but I reckon that the majority of Rovers fans would opt for a move back to the Cowsheds

They knocked our home down and replaced it with a lob sided soul less piece of concrete......... ther is no room for discussion ! unless they're going to knock it down and get some ald railway sleepers, crished concrete stops, soggy plywood and some good ole corrigated Iron................. an it still wouldn't be the same

As a leader of the singing in the Cowsheds in the 80's i can tell you I don't care that it's now seating in there,it's still the Spiritual home of the fans from when we were lucky if we got 1500 for a game,it's even that for younger fans who listen to their Dads & Grandads talking about the history of Tranmere,it's where Charlie Lindsay belted a goalkeeper up the @#$%&,it's where the fans filled that part of the ground when we were in danger of going out of the League,it is & always will be where the True fans want to be.I will be at the top of the Lower Kop next season,row Z,wishing I was at the other end

Totally agree Tran67, I moved to the main stand form the cowsheds, after a couple of seasons in the Kop.
For me the Kop is soulless, and looks awful when it's half-empty. Can't wait till I get my seat back in the Cowsheds,

i think in our current climate we need the extra money from the increased attendance away fans bring (big clubs anyway), Maybe if we had enough support we could look at the jk as an away end but for the meantime i think the kop is a no no.

I too am an 80s cowshed old boy and the cowshed will always be my first choice. Its a bit like Everton, they redeveloped the park end stand (the most expensive stand in the ground to sit in) but for atmosphere people will always go in the gwladys street for the atmosphere (despite the poorer view).

Everton = Gwladys st
Liverpool = Kop
Tranmere = Cowshed

Dont ask me why, it just is :-D.
