After another terrible performance, and yet another loss on their home turf against Charlton Athletic, Tranmere lie in the relegation zone after three straight defeats in the league.

Giving his post-match thoughts, John Barnes told Tranmere Player...

"It was slightly better than Leeds possibly. Do we believe we can play against the top teams? I don't think we do. Maybe the players don't believe they are good enough but I believe they are good enough.

"We know we've lost a lot of players, but the players who are here have to believe they can replace them. I think they have the belief when they play against the lesser teams, but I don't think they do against the top teams in the division. We haven't got the personnel to play the long ball game.

"A lot has been made of the way we want to play which I think is ridiculous - everyone has their idea of how they want to play. In terms of how we want to play, that's got nothing to do with us conceding goals. It's to do with people not making tackles, people not tracking back. That has nothing to do with a short passing game or a long passing game, it's to do with desire. What are we doing when we haven't got the ball?

"We're going to have to get the confidence back individually and collectively in training. We've got to work harder in and out of possession. Forget about tactics, it's about an individual saying 'I'm going to make a tackle', 'I'm going to track back.'

"We want brave players. A lot of players were hiding out there. When we were 4-0 up against Grimsby everybody wanted the ball. Now we're not playing well, we didn't have enough players wanting the ball."

Manager Barnes then went on to confirm Grenadan striker Kithson Bain will arrive on Monday.

I think he's chatting complete and utter B******S!!!

I don't "believe" for one second it's the players fault completely, the fact their manager and assistant sat there not even saying anything contributed to the fact our heads where down and didn't seem like we could get anything out of the game!!!!

The fact he thinks we'd have to get rid of Curran, Shuker, Moore and Mahon if we want to play more dirct is stupid, we played more direct under RM and were successful, and Shuker, Curran and Moore were here then.

John Barnes is just stupid all together IMO.

We should be binning this stupid brazil style and totally reworking the midfield , being more direct in the process.

The midfield should be Barnett---Welsh---Mahon---Fraughan.

Also why the hell is Broomes not playing? If it's because of money why did we sign Ricketts and going to sign Bain?

I believe we can play direct. It doesn't have to be a case of having someone who's 6 foot plus up front. If your strikers have pace, it can work and our strikers i.e. Moore, Gornell, Curran all have pace. Ricketts can be the target man when he's fit and we're still to see what the new fella will be like. It can work!

I agree with what someone said above about them sitting in the dugout! McAteer didn't move of his @#$%& once their third goal went in.

I now make it Wednesday (just re-adjusting my body clock after holidays) and Kithson Bain still hasn't arrived as far as I'm aware?
