Deadly Submarine takes a brief look at the highs and lows of tonight's 4-0 thrashing of Grimsby Town in the first round of the Carling Cup which ensures Rovers make the second round of the competition for the first time in five seasons and gained revenge for last season's first round exit to Grimsby at Blundell Park.....

Weather Report
After a hot day before the game, a perhaps unexpected spell of rain set in in the build-up to kick-off although it still remained as warm as the rest of the day as the match got underway.
Crowd
3,527 fans ventured into the wet evening to watch a game that in the end was fairly one-sided in favour of Rovers and whilst there was some noise from the Kop, the small crowd numbers made a good atmosphere difficult to create.
Referee Watch
Anthony Taylor (Cheshire) - The referee had very little of note to deal with in the game and therefore was barely noticeable during the 90 minutes.
Best Moment
Ian Goodison's cross for Craig Curran's goal was apparently very special (even though I missed it) but I guess the mad eight minutes that saw Rovers go 3-0 up changed the game and has to be the best part of the game.
Worst Moment
it appeared from the Main Stand that Ian Goodison took a huff at being substituted and shrugged off Assistant Manager Jason McAteer when he tried to give him a pat on the back.
Tranmere Man of the Match
Luke Daniels - Just like on Saturday, Daniels made a number of excellent saves whilst once again Chris Shuker was a definite contender for the award as well in an all round improved team performance from Saturday.
Connections
Former Tranmere right-back Robbie Stockdale featured in the Grimsby starting line-up whilst another former defender in Paul Linwood was an unused substitute on the night.
Rovers Fans
As mentioned above, there weren't too many fans in the Stadium to make a great deal of noise but the Upper Kop were trying (and succeeding) to make themselves heard during the game.
Grimsby Fans
Whilst the exact number of Grimsby fans who attended the match is unclear, they were quiet throughout the game with their team of course giving them little to shout about on the whole.
Summary
After the disappointment and lack of attacking ideas at Yeovil on Saturday afternoon, it was nice to see Rovers going for it and creating a large number of chances, albeit against a pretty poor Grimsby side. Some will argue that the result papered over some of the cracks but time will no doubt tell.
Entertainment Value
A much more entertaining affair than on Saturday and was nice to see four goals scored by Barnes's men to easily see off the League Two opposition.
