Rovers left-back Andy Taylor becomes the latest player to join the summer exodus from Prenton Park following Antony Kay, Ben Chorley, Danny Coyne and Steve Jennings out of the door after he signed for Championship side Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

Tranmere Rovers confirmed this afternoon that left-sided defender Andy Taylor has today signed for Championship side Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee after speculation yesterday that he was Yorkshire bound.

The 22-year old joined Tranmere in January 2008 from Blackburn Rovers after impressing during a loan spell at Prenton Park.  Taylor made 81 appearances for Tranmere during his time at the Club and scored three goals, the best one coming away at Crewe Alexandra when he fired in to the top corner.

At that point in time when he joined Rovers, Taylor chose to sign permanently for Tranmere ahead of Championship side Blackpool because he wanted first team football and today that decision paid off with a chance of first team football in the Championship with the Blades.

Whilst the exact fee paid for Taylor by United is not known, it is sure to represent some form of profit from his purchase from Blackburn 18 months ago.  Taylor's move now allows youngster Aaron Cresswell an even bigger chance to make his mark at left-back for Rovers this season.

Manager John Barnes said............

"It was a good offer from Sheffield United and we decided to allow Andy the chance to move to a higher level.   We're still looking to add to our squad ahead of the season and are talking to a number of clubs about both loan and permanent deals.  I'd like to wish Andy all the best for his future career."

Andy Taylor himself added....

"I really enjoyed my time at Tranmere but this move was a great opportunity for me.  I'd like to thank the Tranmere fans for their support and wish the management and all the players and staff all the best for the coming season."

The sale of Andy Taylor is good business.
Cresswell in my humble oppinion is a more than suitable replacement,a better player in fact.

Why is the fee for Taylor "undisclosed", why the secret?

Any good rumours ?

The secret is a mystery but I guess we never actually found out how much we paid for him in the first place either lol.

I thought we paid 20,000 for andy taylor. hopefully we got more than that for his sale.
