Post-Match Moore - "It Was Never Offside"

Tranmere Boss Ronnie Moore was disappointed with the decision of the referees assistant to disallow a Rovers goal after his side lost 1-0 to Oldham this afternoon in a match which at times they dominated. Ex-Rover Reuben Hazell scored the only goal of the game.

Ronnie Moore was annoyed with the decision to disallow what he deemed a fair goal for Tranmere as Oldham left Prenton park with all three points in a 1-0 win.

Moore told Tranmere World......

"I think we were the best side in the first half and they shaded the second half.  A draw would have been a fair result.  To give offside?  There's no way in this world it was offside."

"There were a lot of positives. We tried to play, tried to pass it and tried to get the ball in the box.  If Gregan hadn't been playing for them I think we'd have won the game easily."

"He was the best player on the pitch today and bossed and bullied one or two of our lads.  The lad got a free header for the goal.  The one who was supposed to be picking him up has let everyone down."

"Danny thinks he should have done better but the lad should have buried it from there anyway.  We never finished enough of our attacks behind the back four,  a lot of our football was in front of them in the second half."

How can a linesman at this level, i.e. football league, give offside when Savage played the ball back? I was waiting for the ref to give a foul against Crossley (which it wasn't) but never never never never offside!!!!

No, It didnt go backwards I dont think. But I thought he was onside all the same. Whoever was meant to pick up their man that scored on that cross will have had an earfull by the sound of that.

The ball didn't go backwards, far from it. The goal WASN'T offside though because the Tranmere player who eventually, somehow, put the ball in the net, ran from BEHIND Savage and the ball to interfere with play. On that basis, HOW can he be offside?

Yes correct summary Matt. I think the linesman should have had a ball kicked at him.

Yes, that's a great way of dealing with it. Moore should have been sent off for that, but thankfully because he recieved a yellow card for the offence, the F.A. can take no further action.

That doesn't mean it's a band wagon though as such lol.

Just an opinion on a player split into different viewpoints.

Plus it was me who said to you at half time yesterday that Shotton was excellent, so it wasn't as if I was jumping onto someone elses opinion.

Ronnie makes reference to the player not picking up Hazell for the goal. I've just watched it again on Virgin Media and its clearly Bas Savage who's picking him up. Bas is a centre forward by trade so marking isn't going to be his strongest point, but he was definitely ball watching so Reuben got a free header. Mr Coyne did look at bit static though.
