Tranmere R Vs Yeovil Town

Coca-Cola League One at Prenton Park

By Deadly Submarine

After a much needed away win in London last week against Millwall, Rovers need to make the next two home results count as first Yeovil and then Gillingham visit Prenton Park in the space of four days this week.

Antony Kay's late header was enough to seal all three points in a 1-0 win last Saturday and the same result, if not the same performance will do Ronnie Moore's men again in the next week as they bid to get back into play-off contention.

The Glovers will be out for revenge after Rovers plundered a 94th minute equaliser at Huish Park earlier in the season thanks to a Steve Davies free-kick.

Marcus Stewart had fired Yeovil ahead early in the second half but with time running out for Rovers, Steve Davies made the most of his set-piece opportunity in fine style, curling an effort into the top corner and sending the travelling Superwhite Army wild with delight.

Rovers are unbeaten against the Glovers in the five meetings since they were promoted to League One three seasons ago and Ronnie's men will be hoping that record is still in tact at 5.00pm on Saturday afternoon, preferably with three points on the Board rather than one.

Without a win in 2008 until last Saturday, Rovers have struggled of late despite some relatively decent performances, particularly on the road so these next two home matches are vital if Tranmere are to mount any kind of late promotion challenge.

Perhaps Rovers can be boosted though by the fact that Yeovil have also failed to win in 2008 as well although they have played two less matches having not participated in the third round of the FA Cup.  Their latest result was a 0-0 home draw with Oldham last Saturday afternoon.

Hopefully a decent sized crowd can get down to Prenton Park, with Students able to take advantage of discounted prices for 17-22 year olds, to spur the Rovers on to what be another vital three points.

Enjoy the Game!

Tranmere Team News

Ronnie Moore has doubts over Chris Greenacre (thigh strain) and Paul McLaren (knee) ahead of the game but Greenacre, who missed the two recent away trips to Hereford and Millwall may yet be available.

Steve Davies and Chris Shuker (cruciate ligaments) are both likely to be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Referee - Mark Haywood (West Yorkshire)
