Sbragia still searching for a defender

Ricky Sbragia hopes to add a new defender to Sunderland's squad before next week's crucial Barclays Premier League game against Fulham. Sbragia has made bringing in defensive reinforcements his priority during the January transfer window. And with centre-back Nyron Nosworthy suffering an injury last weekend - he will be missing for up to six weeks - the need to do so has been accentuated.

"A defender has always been the number one priority but we might have to do it a bit quicker now," said Sbragia.

"I've spent a lot of time working on possible replacements in the last couple of days. Hopefully we will get one before the Fulham game."

Sunderland play Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup sponsored by E.ON on Saturday before Fulham visit the Stadium of Light next Tuesday.
