Southend United have refused Town permission to talk to their manager Steve Tilson.

Town have been knocked back three times today with managers as Colin Calderwood has decided to join Nottingham Forest, Nigel Pearson will be staying with West Brom and now Tilson has been ruled out.  

 

Southend boss Tilson has said: “That chairman informed me that Ipswich wanted to speak to me, but they have been turned down, it is flattering to be courted by a club like Ipswich, who have a great history in football and are one of the bigger clubs in the Championship.

 

“And it's good of the chairman to keep me informed of what is happening, but I'm very happy at Southend and feel we still have a lot more to achieve at Roots Hall.

 

“My first priority is to get new players into the club to make sure we are strong enough for the big challenge ahead of us next season.

 

“Then, in the next two or three weeks, I'll be more than happy to sit down with the chairman and talk about extending my contract here. It's not a problem and something I'm happy to do.”

 

Southend Chairman Ron Martin added: “We want to keep Steve and Paul here for four years. We want continuity at this club and we know that Paul wants the same,”

 

But a window may have been opened in the form of Martin Allen who has reportedly left Brentford.
