Town manager Joe Royle says he can’t the see the logic Sven Goran Eriksson's used to pick Theo Walcott over former Town striker Darren Bent.

Royle: “I was staggered when I heard the squad and there doesn't seem any logic to it, it's strange to think that the young lad could be making his debut in the World Cup before he plays in the Premiership and it's certainly a brave and big gamble by Sven.

 

“I'm disappointed for Darren though. He only had the one game to be judged on for England and that's always hard because being his debut, nerves are bound to feature.

 

“With Rooney and Owen injury worries and Peter Crouch with only five goals to his name this season, it's hard to see the logic in taking just the four strikers with Bent and Jermain Defoe losing out.

 

“I was baffled to see Andrew Johnson ahead of Darren on the standby list as well. Sven certainly came up with a few surprises.”
