As we say goodbye to the 2005/06 season we also say goodbye to a number of players, but none of which will be missed as much as our Skipper of four years Jim Magilton.
The
Over the seven years at Town Magilton made 315 match appearances and scored 21 goals, including his only hat-trick at home in the all important match against Bolton in Towns play off campaign in 2000. His role at the club gained further importance in 2003 when he took over the captains armband following the departure of Matt Holland.
Last Summer Magilton signed a one year extension to his contract, for what was to be his final season as a Tractor Boy.
Magilton is now focusing on heading home to the North to finish his playing career. Throughout the season there has been interest in Jim, but where he will end up, as of yet is unclear, What we do know is that wherever he lay his boots he shall continue studying for his UEFA coaching badges, and will certainly be an asset with both his physical and mental presence.
Although this season has been to an extent more relaxed for his physical input, his influence on the club and in the dressing room will be greatly missed.
Jim Magilton and his family have describe the seven years with Ipswich as a 'pleasure' and to the town fans, as I’m sure it does with the staff, it feels as if a part of the furniture is being removed.
We wish Jim and his family all the best, and although Jims departure leaves a hole in the heart of Ipswich Town Football Club, we know that it will be treasured by the Magilton’s forever, and who knows, in the years to come, he might just come back on the other side of the desk.
On behalf of all the fans of Ipswich Town Football Club I would Like to say Good Luck Jim, and thanks for the memories (Some of which, thanks to modern day technology, can be re-lived over and over again on the wonder that is the DVD)
