Ipswich Town defender Scott Mitchell has been told he will not be getting a new contract in the summer and he is free to leave Town.
The 20-year-old defender has been heavily hampered by groin and ankle injuries since making his Town debut back in November 2003 and has only managed four appearances for the first team.
Town manager Joe Royle confirmed the news saying: “I've had a word with Scott and told him we will be letting him go.
“He has not made as much progress as we would have hoped although he has also been unlucky with injuries.
“We have seen other young players like Scott Barron come through and Chris Casement is also forging his way ahead so there has been limited opportunities for Scott to become involved with the first-team.
“He will be free to leave in the summer but making him available now will hopefully help him get fixed up before then. We will do what we can to help him get his career going elsewhere.”
