Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Romain Larrieu has accused Town striker Nicky Forster of diving to win a penalty on Saturday.

Forster won a penalty for Town after being brought down by Larrieu ten minutes into the second half which Matt Richards converted to give Town a 3-1 lead, but Larrieu feels it was not a penalty.

 

Larrieu: “I'm really upset. I have heard a lot of times it was foreign players that brought cheating into the game.

 

“But a lot of English players nowadays think they are protected because of that.

 

“There is a lot of them diving. I can see it every week. I think the ref needs to be aware of that.

 

“I think I made it look like a penalty but it wasn't one. That's what people need to know.

 

“The situation is very hard for keepers now. He (Forster) pushed the ball too far for him to score.

 

“If he wanted to score I would have won the ball but he didn't try to score. He just tried to win the ball and kick it out, directly out of play, almost into the stands and the referee gives a penalty for that.

 

“Obviously, if you play in goal you can't go for the ball anymore when it's a 50-50.

 

“I went for it. Maybe I was a bit naive to go for it, but I really thought I had a big chance to win the ball.

 

“If we had kept it at 2-1 for five more minutes, I think we would have been in a great shape. They (Ipswich) didn't show us anything in the first half. Both of their goals came from corners.

 

“We know we need to defend set pieces because it's so important in any division you play in, this one more so than most, and we didn't do it properly.”
