Nicky started his professional career with Gillingham back in 1992, he made 67 appearances for the Gills, scoring 24 goals before moving to Brentford in 1994 for £100,000. During his time at Griffin Park he got 39 goals in 109 games, giving a goal a ratio of about 1 in every 2.7 games, this tally alerted Birmingham City to the striker and in January 1997 they paid £700,000 for his services. During his two and half years at St Andrews he scored just twelve goals but that didn’t stop Reading paying £650,000 for his services in June 1999.
Forster left Reading and joined Town in 2005, signing a two year contract. Nicky’s time at Reading was one of the most successful in his footballing career, his goals helped Reading get promoted from division two in the first division (Championship) and then into the First division play-offs, only for his hopes to be dashed by Wolves who beat Reading over the two legs of there semi final in 2003.
