Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle says he would be ‘very surprised’ if Town did not have at least one new player in place before the start of the season.

Although Royle has remained tight lipped as ever about who he has in mind but says he expects some one in place before the season kicks off in two weeks.

Royle: “I would be very surprised if we didn't have at least one new player on board by the first game of the new season.

“I am looking to bring in one new defender, maybe two, and I expect things to happen in the next fortnight.

“There are going to be changes. I am still very confident in the strength of our first XI but there is no doubt that we must add a bit more depth to the squad.

“At the same time, though, it doesn't mean there is any lack of optimism in the camp. We have just over two weeks to go before the start of the new season and we'll be ready.”
