Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle is hoping for lots of festive cheering at tomorrow nights top of the table clash with Wigan at Portman Road.

Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle is hoping for lots of festive cheering at tomorrow nights top of the table clash with Wigan at Portman Road.

Joe: “It's a massive game and hopefully the occasion - I always think a game under floodlights creates a better atmosphere - will bring out the best in everyone.

“The prize for victory could hardly be more attractive and, while I have a great respect for Wigan, we are at home in front of a full house and will be looking to make that count.

“Norwich got stronger and stronger after winning here a year ago and, while it's hardly a precedent, there's an example there to be followed.

If Town win they will replace Wigan at the top of table and Joe knows what his team has to do tomorrow night in order to do that, adding: “We know what we have to do. We always see it as our role to go out and entertain our fans. They pay their money and are entitled to expect that.

“If we keep them happy by playing well enough to win the game, and take over from Wigan as Championship leaders, so much the better.

“The fans always have their part to play. They have backed us brilliantly all season and I am sure they will be in full voice for tomorrow's game.

“We are looking to give them the perfect Christmas present by becoming the new league leaders.”
