Williams: Follow Rugby
Ipswich Town physio Dave Williams believes that football should follow the lead of rugby and allow “blood substitutes”.
Against Reading last month Town had to go down to 10 men while Jason De Vos
received stitches and during the 5 minutes or so that De Vos was off the pitch
Reading scored their equalizing goal, and Williams the Rugby have the right for
when something like that happens, saying: “We are not allowed to bandage up an
injury as a temporary measure, then carry out the stitching at half time or
after the game, the idea is to avoid cross contamination of blood and was
introduced because of HIV.
“In rugby substitutes are allowed on the pitch
when a player has to go off to receive treatment or be stitched up and that
seems an obvious answer to me.”.
