Town 1-1 Burnley: Report
Ipswich Town slipped to fourth in the coca cola football league championship after a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Portman Road.
The meanest defence in the league lived up to its billing yesterday keeping town with out a goal until the 90th minute when Matt Richards let fly with a left footed volley to give Town a share of the points.
Burnley came to Portman to avoid defeat by any means possible and they only got their goal because of the normal mistake in the Ipswich defence, Richard Naylor lost possession to Micah Hyde who crossed to Robbie Blake who placed the ball past Lewis Price in the 19th minute.
Jason De Vos stopped Burnley doubling there advantage his goalline clearance keeping out Robbie Blake’s chipped effort.
Town did have a few chances in the fast half, not many on target not many of them on target, Dean Bowditch missed a great opportunity to level things up during the first half passing instead of shooting, Shefki Kuqi sent a header across goal.
Town went in 1-0 down at the break but what ever Joe told the players during the break came so close to making it 1-1, Town were awarded a free kick soon after the restart which Kevin Horlock took and set crashing into the cross bar.
Pablo Couñago was introduced in place of Dean Bowditch who had completely muscled out of the game by the Burnley back line.
Burnley continued to have the better of the play in the second half with only Lewis Price keeping out shots from Richard Chaplow and Robbie Blake, but in the 85th minute the 6-1 score line that was witnessed in this fixture last season could have been realised as Burnley put every one behind the ball trying to stop an Ipswich onslaught which saw the woodwork hit by Pablo Couñago and Tommy Miller.
Miller was desperately unlucky not to of scored after his effort hit the underside of the bar and the post with the same shot.
All the pressure in the last few minutes did result in a goal, Shefki Kuqi’s cross being converted by Matt Richards.
