Bent Bid Binned

Ipswich Town have confirmed that Charlton Athletic had placed a £3million bid for England under 21 and Ipswich Forward Darren Bent and its been rejected.

Bent has been reported as the target for several premiership clubs in the past, mostly Newcastle united bit no club had made a firm bid for the 20 year old until Charlton recently.

Ipswich Town manager Joe Royle has said that: “I can confirm that the Club has received a bid from Charlton and that bid has been rejected.

“That is as far as the situation goes at the moment.”.

Meanwhile Charlton’s chief executive Peter Varney has said that: “It is not our policy to conduct transfer negotiations in public, but I can confirm we have had a £3m offer for Darren Bent rejected by Ipswich Town, and as far as we are concerned that is the end of the matter.”.

It understandable that Charlton wish to add to their strike force after the departure of Palo Di Canio in the summer but surly with Carlton Cole they would have no need for Bent who has scored 38 goals in 96 games would a third wheel.
