Town 2-1 Osasuna

Ipswich Town rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win over Spanish side Osasuna at Portman road last night.

Goals from Pablo Couñago and Shefki Kuqi were enough to see Ipswich finish off the summer in a good way.

The first Ipswich goal came after nine minutes when Dean Bowditch set up Pablo Couñago who slotted the ball home from eight yards, that being the Spaniard’s fourth goal in 7 pre-season outings.

Ipswich town ‘keeper Kelvin Davis must have been practicing with the Ipswich gymnastics team in recent weeks pulling a couple of amazing one handed saves to keep Towns’ advantage intact, most notably of these were stopping a 25 yard effort from Cruchaga.

Ipswich midfielder Kevin Horlock had to leave the field after 27 minutes after a hard tackle left him with a sore knee, Antonio Murray coming on in his place.

Shefki Kuqi doubled Town’s lead on the half hour mark, first hitting the turf before forcing the ball into the net with his left foot.

At half time former Aston Villa front man Savo Milosevic kicked the match ball towards the dug outs in frustration. Darren Bent came on for Ipswich in place of Shefki Kuqi.

Richard Naylor put the ball into the back of the net, unluckily it was his own net but luckily Savo Milosevic was in an offside position.

Despite the introduction of Frenchman Pascal Nouma in the 59th minute in place of Pablo Couñago, town didn’t manage to bother the Osasuna keeper in the second half. Scott Mitchell replaced Ian Westlake in the 74th minute while Osasuna continued to pressure the town defence, pressured to an extent where Jason De Vos had to leave the pitch after 80 minutes with a knee injury, Scott Baron coming on the replace him.

All of Osasuna’s pressure paid off with three minutes to go, the normal slack Ipswich Town marking allowing Miguel Flano to score a consolation for the visiting team.

Ipswich Town Squad: Scott Barron, Darren Bent, Dean Bowditch, Pablo Couñago, Kelvin Davis, Jason De Vos, Drissa Diallo, Shefki Kuqi, Kevin Horlock, Jim Magilton, Tommy Miller, Scott Mitchell, Antonio Murray, Richard Naylor, Lewis Price, Ian Westlake, Fabian Wilnis.
