Shearer The End Of An Era

Despite Alan Shearer’s unconfirmed injury gained during Newcastle’s 4-1 victory at the Stadium Of Light on Easter Monday he has casually waived any blame placed upon Sunderland’s Julio Arca and said it was completely accidental

“To be fair, the Sunderland lad just fell on top of me.”

He continued…

“He fell on the outside of my knee and that puts pressure on the inside, and something has given in there. The knee is very sore and to be honest, it is not looking good at the moment. We will leave it until Thursday before I have a scan, but our medical people fear that there is a tear in the medial ligament.”

If however it is the end of Alan’s footballing career then he went out on a high despite the early departure.

Monday saw Shearer claim his 206th goal for Newcastle

“I've been waiting five or six years for a penalty against this lot because I missed my last one against Sunderland, and the wait was worthwhile. There was a lot of frustration and anger in that penalty.”

And whilst he may no longer be playing for a European place himself he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of the team being placed

“Europe would be great and it is certainly realistic now,

We've certainly got something to play for in our last four games now.

It seemed a very distant prospect a month ago, but we are level with Wigan and Bolton on points now, so there is an outside chance we could get there after a long, hard season.

It has been hard at times, but there is an opportunity for us to get something at the end of it which would be a great way for me to sign off.”
