Newcastle 3 – 1 Tottenham

Newcastle United are back on track after a 3-1 victory over Spurs and a MOTM for Lee Bowyer.

No, it’s not an April Fool. Newcastle are back to their winning ways.

Bowyer put Newcastle ahead after just 66 seconds after Shearer gave the ball to N’Zogbia who put it across the face of goal for Bowyer to tap in.

Ameobi went close, dragging a shot wide and Bowyer nearly had his second after 11 minutes when he ran onto Ameobi’s ball but could only scuff his shot after pressure from Edgar Davids; pressure which Bowyer felt was in excess and he should have had a penalty for.

The Spurs defence fell asleep after 16 minutes when Robbie Elliot put a great cross in but Shearer and Solano both failed to get their heads to it.

It was 19 minutes into the game when Spurs had their first real attack and it came in the form of Aaron Lennon, who went past ex-Spurs player Stephen Carr, crossed to Robbie Keane who scored for the equaliser.

It took just 6 minutes for Newcastle to level as Solano’s shot was parried but Ameobi was on hand to tap in the rebound.

After half an hour, Newcastle were given a penalty due to an unnecessary push by Davids on Bowyer and Alan Shearer, on his 300th appearance for Newcastle, made no mistake in putting the Magpies 3-1 up.

Ameobi, who was in good form, had a chance on 37 minutes to extend the lead but ended up with a weak shot, but Spurs had the last chance of the half with Robbie Keane hitting a defelcted free-kick onto the crossbar.

HALF TIME: 3-1

The second half started lively with Dawson making a last-ditch tackle to stop Shearer getting on the end of Solano’s cross.

Jermaine Jenas, on his return to Newcastle, had what can only be described as one of the misses of the season, as Robbie Elliot made an error with the backpass leaving Jenas 1-on-1 with Given. He rounded the keeper and with nothing but an empty net infront of him he managed to shoot into the side-netting, much to the delight of the Toon Army.

Keane hit the outside of the post on 58 minutes but Spurs hopes faded when Dawson was sent off for his second yellow card after a tug on Alan Shearer.

Ramage went close on 63 minutes, producing a good save from Robinson, and Keane, again went close for Spurs on 80 minutes.

The game was not done yet, with Bowyer breaking through on 82 minutes but the final shot was weak, and Jenas put a free-kick over the bar.

FULL TIME: 3-1
