Roeder Ruled Out

Glenn Roeder has been ruled out of the running to take over as as Newcastle United manager on a permanant basis.

“Glenn has made it very clear he doesn't want the job and wants to return to the academy so it's not even a discussion point,” Shepherd told the News of the World.

“Alan has made it clear he wants to have a couple of years off and then we’ll see what happens. But one day I have no doubt he will be manager here.

It’s disrespectful to say who has applied but we have not approached George Graham and he has not approached us. As far as I'm concerned, we are looking at the big picture in terms of replacing Graeme and that means taking a Europe-wide view.

There is no shortlist as such - it doesn’t work that way. It would make a lot of sense to make the appointment near the end of this season and before the World Cup.”
