Viana Gone For Good

Newcastle United have agreed to let midfielder Hugo Viana join Spanish side Valencia on a permanent basis. The player joined Newcastle United from Sporting Lisbon in June 2002 but failed to make a good impact on the team...

He spent last season back on loan at Lisbon before another loan move took him to Valencia ahead of the 2005/06 season. The Spanish side have now used their right to sign the player for good.

Newcastle paid a considerable sum for the player when he joined and have moved to explain that they will not make such a big loss as people believe on the player. Newcastle United’s chief operating officer Russell Cushing said: “Suggestions of a £7m loss are wildly inaccurate. There is a significant up front cash payment for the club, with a share in future profits if Valencia sell the player in the future.”
