Shearer Trusts Board

Record-breaking Newcastle skipper Alan Shearer has told the press he is happy to keep things running at St. James Park until the board find a replacement manager.

Shearer got his 201st goal for the Magpies in a 2-0 victory over Portsmouth, and Newcastle can hopefully steer themselves away from the relegation zone.

Shearer said:

"We don't know what's going on behind the scenes, I assume the board and chairman are working hard to do things. We'll keep it ticking over and, hopefully, take that confidence and form going into Aston Villa.

"They will be high on confidence, with a great win at Middlesbrough last week, so it'll be a tough game for us.

"It's a big decision. Whoever comes in will find a great football club.

"4-0 at Middlesbrough was a fantastic result by anyone's standards but we hope to take our confidence we gained from last week into the game so it's got the makings of an interesting game.

"There's no point in us winning last week then going to Villa and getting beat. We've got to try and carry on now and start to climb the table.

"I just go out and see what happens,"

"I've never ever set myself any targets - 20 goals or 30 goals. I've just gone out and done my best.

"I'll go out and enjoy the last three months and see where it takes me.

"All records are there to be broken. I'm sure it'll be broken one day but it might take a while."
