Bowyer's Anfield Red Card Challenged By Toon

Newcastle United will be appealing at a Football Association disciplinary commission meeting on Thursday over the decision to send off midfielder Lee Bowyer for foul play at Anfield on Boxing Day. The ex-Leeds United player was given the marching orders during Newcastle's 2-0 defeat at Liverpool for a poor challenge on Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool's Peter Crouch was also booked, for his part in the mass brawl which followed.

Lee Bowyer will miss tonights home match against former club Charlton.
