Manager's reaction

Following United's draw with Villa, Souness praised his sides performance despite not managing to pick up all 3 points.

It could have been worse for the Scot had Gareth Barry not blazed an 88th minute penalty well over Shay Given's goal, however after a lacklustre display in midweek against Wigan Souness chose to highlight the positive points from the day.

The manager said "We've had a bit of luck today, which is something we've not had too much of."

"In terms of what we got from the players out there, I am extremely happy."

"I understand that last Wednesday at Wigan we did not perform in any shape or form."

"You can't win every game you are involved in, but the least you expect from your team is to give 100%, and we got that today."

When asked about Bramble's rash tackle which so nearly cost United at the end, he said "Why Titus has gone to make that challenge at that time I do not know. I will be asking him on Monday morning."

Souness will now have a week to prepare for the tough fixture against Arsenal, for which hopefully he will have a few more players available to choose from.
