Micheal Owen's arrival to St.James Park has seen Ameobi relegated to the bench, however he still believes he can play a part in Newcastle's season "It is a challenge for me to stay involved with the first team," Ameobi told the club's official website.

"It is a challenge for me to stay involved with the first team," Ameobi told the club's official website.

Ameobi was heavily criticised after the dissappointing performace at Portsmouth and he is eager to get a chance to put it right at Newcastle's next fixture at Wigan

"If I get the chance at Wigan i'll be a lot sharper than I was at Portsmouth, and the team will get a lot more out of me then they did at Portsmouth"

"I just have to keep giving it my all and keep giving it my best and hopefully it will turn for me.I'm confident it will."

Personally I think he's in denial, how many times have we heard him make these same kind of comments?I think he's trying to convince himself that he can still perform at premiership level.I think the best thing for everyone is to loan him out in January if we sign Anelka or Ashton or anyone who comes in.A fresh start at a different club and new surrondings might re-energise him and he may come back a better player. To be frank, i'm not holding my breath though.I've rarely been convinced that Ameobi can produce the goods consistently at Premiership level.
