27-year-old Albert Luque, who signed for Newcastle United this summer, will become a big success at St James' Park according to Toon boss Graeme Souness.

The left sided attacking player signed from Deportivo at the end of August, signalling the end of Souness' interest in Portuguese start Luis Boa Morte.

Speaking to Newcastle World TV, Souness said: "We're delighted to have Luque here.

"He's highly regarded in Spain, in the top three or four players if you were to ask any Spanish fan. And he will prove to be a top-class player here.

"Luis Boa Morte is a player we were interested in, but it didn't happen and sometimes you don't always get what you want in life.

"But I'm delighted we got Luque and I am sure our supporters will love him. He can score goals and he can supply the passes for our strikers to score goals as well.

"He's only been here a short time, but I think it's important our supporters know we've signed a real top character in Albert Luque, as we have in Michael Owen and Nobby Solano too."
