Magpies get Luque

Newcastle yesterday finally had a breakthrough in the transfer market when Spanish international Luque joined from La Liga club Deportivo.

The Magpies have been desperately short of attacking options in recent weeks, proven by the fact that they have not scored a goal in their opening three games of the Premier League.

Luque can play as a striker or a left winger, two positions which were left lacking depth following the summer departures of Kluivert, Bellamy and Robert.

After taking the number 20 shirt, Luque said "I'm very happy to sign. This transfer has been talked about for a while now and its good to be here and have the matter resolved."

He has received international clearance to play in sundays match against Manchester United, and is relishing the chance to make his debut against the Red Devils. He said "Manchester United is a very important club in world football, and they have a great team. It would be a great game for me to make my debut in."

The fee being mentioned in the media is £9million.
