Newcastle have allowed Portuguese midfielder Hugo Viana to join Valencia on loan after failing to secure him a permanent deal away from the club.

It is the second season in a row that he has been a loanee, after he spent last year playing for Sporting Lisbon.

Celta Vigo and Sporting were rumoured to be interested in a permanent deal this summer, however nothing materialised. Valencia, who have also paid a fee for the loan, will have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.
