GRAEME Souness was happy to hear that Jermaine Jenas' red card had been wiped off following a change of heart from referee Steve Bennett.
Souness was furious at Mr Bennett's decision to dismiss JJ for a challenge on Gilberto, and TV pundits backed the United boss after studying replays of the incident during yesterday's TV coverage.
But United were informed on Monday that the red card had been reduced to a yellow after the match official had another look at the challenge.
Souness told nufc.co.uk: "Fair play to the referee for having another look at the incident and making this decision.
"We have to be happy that he has made it.
"I said after the game that it was never a sending off offence, there was no doubt in my mind that the tackle from JJ didn't deserve a red card."
Meanwhile, the FA have decided to play a joke on Newcastle by appointing Barry Knight to charge of the match against the newly-promoted Hammers. Knight's last low-key appearance at SJP ended with Newcastle having eight men on the field and Villa leaving with a 3-0 win featuring two penalties, one of which was clearly outside the box.
