Shearer: We’re Confident

Alan Shearer has announced that Newcastle are confident going into a Intertoto Cup second leg against Deportivo.

Newcastle need to win after losing 2-1 in Spain, otherwise there is no European football for the Magpies this season.

But Shearer has told Newcastle World TV that he thinks the team can do it.

Shearer said:

"It was important we gave ourselves a chance after the first leg, and although our performance wasn't that great in Coruna, we got a decent result that sets this game up nicely.

"Lee Bowyer's goal could prove vital. They are a really top side, all comfortable on the ball and they caused us problems.

"They created a few chances in the first game and could have scored more goals. But they didn't and that might prove their downfall - I certainly hope so.

"It will be a tough game for us, but we're confident we can do it."
