Newcastle United striker Micheal Chopra has revealed how he cut his summer holiday short to prepare for this season.

Chopra may have a chance to break into the first team at his hometown club and he is doing everything possible to make that happen.

Chopra said:

"I had done a bit with Steve Black - he's a good family friend,"

"It was helpful to do a bit with him and get myself ready because I knew this was a season where I could really kick on.

"It was two or three weeks before the pre-season training started. I always work hard over the summer but I decided to do something different.

"I've got to try and get as much edge over the players as I can. Everyone's in there together - you're all fighting for one position. You've got to try and be in the best possible shape and take the opportunities when they come along."
