Newcastle United boss Graeme Souness remains confident of bringing 26-year-old Fenerbahce striker Nicolas Anelka to Tynside after the Turkish side appear ready to accept any offers of £10m for him.
Fenerbahce had insisted the striker was not for sale, but latest reports indicate that they would be willing to let him go.
Speaking to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, Souness said: "Kevin Keegan told me Anelka was one of the best strikers he's worked with.
"If we do get him, we know he'll do the business. Off the field he has a more settled family life - he's not a big socialiser, and he's not a playboy."
With Craig Craig Bellamy and Patrick Kluivert joining Blackburn and Valencia respectively this summer, a striker is a priority for Souness.
