Jebediah’s roundup of Thursday's tabloid newspapers, and a look at the stories and rumours involving Newcastle United.
Main news in the papers today is from yesterdays press conference where Belozoglu Emre was revealed to the public as a Newcastle player. The Toon signed him for £3.8m, and once the clubs had agreed a fee Emre had no hesitation in signing. There were no issues with his claim for a work permit.
Emre also spoke highly of his new manager, saying he had a lot of trust in him. He said this was since events in Turkey (when Emre was a youngster at Galatasaray), when Galatasaray won the league on bitter rivals Fenerbahce's back yard. After winning the title, Souness placed a Galatasaray flag in the centre of the pitch, much to the anger of the home crowd, but to the delight of everyone connected to Galatasaray. Emre said yesterday "When a manager does that for your team you trust him. I remember that day well and Graeme is now showing great trust in me which I hope to repay."
He also spoke about his ambitions with his new club, saying "I want to play for them in the Champions League. I also believe we will be successful for the coming year in the Premiership."
He spoke about the city, saying "I didn't know much about Newcastle when I came here but my first impressions have been good," then joked "I've not learned many geordie words but I am told 'Howay the lads' would be a good starting point!"
Souness spoke about his new signing, saying he was "sure" Emre could deal with the pressures or the Premier League, following from his Milan experiece. He also said "Along with Scott Parker he will improve the situation no end" as they will add aggression and bite in the tackle.
Other news from this mornings tabloids regards Luis Boa Morte, and his proposed move away from Fulham. Newcastle have been linked with the winger constantly over the last 6 months, but from nowhere Middlesbrough have now entered the frame. According to The Sun, Boro have made a firm inquiry and have been told to make a bid by the end of the week. This means Newcastle will have to get their act together if they want to seal a deal, but apparently they have been slightly put off by Fulham manager Chris Colemans demands for the player, saying "It would have to be North of £5m."
Yesterday Boa Morte's agent spoke to Sky Sports News, saying the situation was likely to be resolved by the end of the week. He also confirmed that Boa Morte had rejected an offer to go back to his native Portugal, stating that his client would like to remain in England.
