With Craig Bellamy having left the club for Blackburn Rovers, Patrick Kluivert having left for Valencia, and Shola Ameobi injured, Newcastle boss Graeme Souness has indicated that England midfielder Kieron Dyer could well lead United's attack this coming season.
Since no replacement has been brought in for Bellamy and Kluivert, the club are left with just Alan Shearer and Michael Chopra in attack.
On the matter, Graeme Souness said: "Dyer is the obvious replacement for Craig Bellamy. And he will score more goals.
"This club is stronger without Bellamy here.
"Craig only averaged nine goals a season and I see Kieron Dyer bettering that. He played up front before he was injured at the end of last season and played some of his best football of his career.
"I am a big fan of his and he will be in the starting XI.
"The best thing for Newcastle was Craig Bellamy leaving this club. We will be a healthier club this year. We will be a better football club."
