GEORDIE PRIDE NIGHT!

By Matthew Jones
July 9 2005

The first geordie pride night, with Paul Martin, is on Fri 26th August, then on the last Friday of each month. They will be held in Shearer's Bar, and promise to be fantastic nights out. Read on to find out what this is all about...

Do you remember local lads Cryin' Out Loud from the 90's?

In 1999, tyne tees televivsion show Look North had a phone-in competition to find Newcastle United's cup final song and Cryin' Out Loud's rewritten version of Comin' Home Newcastle swept the competition aside with 67% of the votes.

The lads couldn't make it on to the show as they were working in Majorca at the time.  The song was played continuosly on local radio supporting Newcastle United for their cup final.

Since then, lead singer/songwriter Paul Martin has been working abroad for a couple of years and now he's back home and for the last year has been working up and down the UK with his new, hugely successful Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin tribute show.

Paul will be performing this show on Fri 5th August, and then on the first Friday of every month, at Shearer's Bar. But the night he is most looking forward to is his brand new venture, Geordie Pride Night.

Paul has had this idea for a long time and has finally found the ideal venue to put on this wonderful night of nostalgia.  Where better than Shearer's bar, named after our local geordie hero. (Shearer's bar is situated directly under St James' Park)

The first geordie pride night is on Fri 26th August, then on the last Friday of each month.

Paul has always been a great fan of geordie songs, especially those by an artist called Busker and these songs have been re-created and are being performed by Paul with occasional guest singers.

Paul will be singing many famous songs by the likes of Lindisfarne, Dire Straits, Busker, Jimmy Nail and 3 or 4 which Paul has wrote himself.  Including one in particular called  "We're Geordies" which Paul wrote especially for the opening night and hopes one day will become a true anthem sung by all geordies.

After last seasons dismal performance by Newcastle United everybody was full of doom and gloom but what Paul wants to remind everyone is that we are still blessed as we've been born in the greatest place in the country surrounded by the friendliest people.

This event is brought to you by PVM Entertainments and is being promoted in conjunction with the journal culture club and their members will get special discounts on these Friday nights.

If you're out and about on Fri 23rd July then get yourself down to Royal Quays shopping outlet where Paul will be performing some of the songs for these special gigs.  Paul recently sang at Greys Monument and is planning to do another show there at the beginning of August to promote the Geordie Pride Night.
