Paper Talk - Thursday July 7

Jebediah’s roundup of Mondays tabloid newspapers, and a look at the stories and rumours involving Newcastle United.

A very quiet day in the papers today, although there is a fair bit of news coming in later in the day on the newspapers websites.

News of a possible arrival which we have not heard about for a while is that of Belozoglu Emre from Inter Milan. A statement made by Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd confirms that an official bid for the midfielder has been made. Inter gave the Toon permission to talk to Emre a while ago, however a lack of news has made many people believe the move was a non starter, despite the player saying he had agreed to join. Shepherd is now waiting for a response from Inter.

The inevitable news has taken longer to arrive than many would have thought, however it has finally happened - Craig Bellamy has left the club. However, how many people would have thought his destination would be Blackburn? It appears that the attraction of linking up with former Wales boss Mark Hughes was enough to tempt Bellamy to join Rovers.

From this mornings Sun, the only tabloid this morning carrying relevant news, Barcelona have offered Newcastle and Tottenham Argentinian striker Javier Saviola. The player has been loaned out previously, and apparently Barcelona would be willing to do the same, or alarmingly let him go on a free transfer! The La Liga champions are apparently so desperate to let him go that they would let him go for nothing, as he is not a part of their plans at all.

Also from The Sun, Alan Pardew has confirmed his desire to sign Bennedict Mccarthy, who has been linked with Newcastle over the summer.

Finally, alleged Toon target Quinton Fortune has been less that fortunate and has ruptured a cruciate ligament. The versatile Man Utd man will be out of action for 6 months, putting end speculation regarding a possible move to the Toon over the summer.
