Graeme Souness is keen to secure the services of Emre, ahead of next month's Intertoto Cup. Recent reports suggested that Emre has agreed personal terms with the club, although Emre's agent states that offers are still being considered. No official statement has been released from either club. It is hoped that Emre will link up in midfield with new signing Scott Parker, and Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas in next month's competition, as the Magpies' aim to secure a place in this season's UEFA Cup competition.

Emre and Souness have met, with Souness flying out to Turkey to talk to the Inter midfielder only last week. A fee needs agreeing between the two clubs however, and the wage package may also need to be discussed further.

GRAEME SOUNESS: "We still hope to do a deal with Emre - we want him and the boy wants to join us.

"But we have not come to an agreement with him yet.

"He is one player on my list. He can play wide left, through the middle or off the front. He is a good player who can play in a number of positions."
