It has been reported that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas for £6 million.

The Newcastle United vice-captain may wish to leave the club, after having his place threatened by the signing of Parker, with maybe Emre and Figo still to come.

This has all been reported by The Mirror who claim that Spurs had their £6 million bid rejected, but are ready to bid again.

Souness appears keen to hold on to Jenas. He has praised the 22-year-old publicly before now and during Alan Shearer’s absence last season, Souness m,ade the England-international Captain.

Some believe Souness may look at playing 5 in midfield next year, with Newcastle’s midfield looking very strong for next season, but with little attacking options open to the Magpies.

This could be the first of the cash spent by Spurs received from Chelsea, and it would give Jenas the chance to link up with fellow young England-stars; Jermaine Defoe and Micheal Carrick.
